Your leaders will point out local wildlife and are always happy to show you a bit of their local land. What ever your ability Thredbo Valley Horse Riding has a trail suited to gain your maximum enjoyment, they even have small ponies for young children.

Murray One Power Station

Murray 1 Power Station is the second largest power station in the Snowy Mountains Scheme. There are 10 turbines at Murray 1, each capable of producing enough electricity to supply over 95,000 houses.

Next to the power station is the Murray 1 Visitors Centre. This centre offers an exciting interactive experience with a wide range of displays, “hands on”models and exhibits. There are BBQ and picnic areas by the water that are open to the public. Light refreshments are available in the Cafe.

The Murray 1 Visitors Centre is located only 15 minutes from Khancoban on the Alpine Way. There is designated public visitor parking. Visitors are requested to follow visitor signs and parking instructions at the power station.
The Alpine Way is steep and winding in places and motorists are advised to take care and drive to the weather and road conditions, while making your way along one of the most spectacular drives in Australia.
If travelling from Cooma, Jindabyne or Thredbo, please allow sufficient time for your journey, especially during winter.
Also located only a couple of minutes from the centre of Khancoban are the Khancoban Dam release gates where the water from the Scheme is released into the Swampy Plains River and then into the Murray River for irrigation. An impressive location that is well worth a look.
